Students studying international success

These stories are far enough in terms of time and geography, but the same feeling and the involvement of higher education institutions for the share of international students are not about income.

• "Time to stop milking the cash cow", October 2007 - The Age, Australia;
• '' cash cow for foreign students 'university', September 2012 - The Telegraph, United Kingdom;
• "cash foreign students to US colleges", March 2015 - CNBC, US.

One light of the global recession triggered by the financial pressure on the trend of international students together to create a new line of revenue to increase. Given a lot of pressure to increase enrollment, missed a lot of organizations and other major trend spotting, namely, international student communication patterns change, adapt to the expectations of the search behaviors and studying abroad.

For example, in June 2008, Apple 3G phoned sold one million units in just three days. This number jumped to 13 million Apple 6s September 2015. Also, the total number of Face book users in August 2008 to 1.35 million in October from 100 million in 2014. For both Face book and Apple, the majority of the users are in their international markets.

Clearly, the search technology and communication behaviors have a major impact throughout the world, among students, among others. Nearly six years back, the use of social media for international students and to deepen the understanding of the decision-making process for the appeal I made. However, many organizations continue to struggle to adapt to changing needs and expectations of international students.

This resulted in a widening of the gap between the expectations of the students and the institutional strategies to be. Although the decision-making process of the students, anecdotal evidence, hunches and stereotypes continue to promote strategies and institutional practices.

These reactive strategies in some countries more than a century, and, at the same time, the campus climate, can hurt their reputation with institutional and individual student experiences. Therefore, it is important to understand not only the students, but also proactively to strategize and prepare for emerging markets and trends.

Segmentation

International Student segmentation needs and helps us to understand the behavior of a framework for international students is changing.

The first was launched in 2012 by the International Student Research Not all of them are the same, the scope of segmentation strategies and practices intended to inform a diverse enrollment needs, motivations and priorities in the context of international students.

Since then, the study tried to answer the following questions:

• How do different segments of international students in their preparations vary in terms of academic and financial resources?
• What information does not value international students to study abroad when researching colleges and universities? What sources of information they use to get there?
• How to attract and enroll in higher education institutions of the future best-fit for international students?

The four students in the framework of the identified segments along two dimensions: academic preparedness and financial resources.

• strivers: High academic preparedness; Low financial resources
• fighters: Low academic preparedness; Low financial resources
• Explorers: low academic preparedness; Large financial resources
• Highfliers: High academic preparedness; Large financial resources.

The core of this framework is the contribution of higher education institutions to encourage students beyond the aggregate numbers to understand and recognize the diversity of their needs and expectations. This framework also provides a lens "local" in the context of cross-border or transnational education to students.

Several researchers in the field to investigate further deepen the understanding of our international students. However, as we expand the scope of this has been to discover and define the success of the International Students.

Research on the international success of students

Every year, international student enrollment numbers and institutional changes at the national media attention, but rarely is there a focus on how to improve the success of international students. Emerging and expanding field of research goes beyond the trends in international student mobility to invest in research and student success.

How to prevent the success of international students on campus about their experiences and contribute to the research and evidence, but they are limited.

In the US, research and institutional practices of the first attempts to understand the areas of improvement NAFSA's Bridging the Gap in a research report entitled: Recruitment and retention to improve the experiences of international students.

Students what they think are important areas of satisfaction and the students important illustration of the gap between what institutions think. Similarly, the UK and Australia are trying to better understand and deal with these issues.

Research to advance this agenda, the guest editor of the special issue of the Journal of International Student Success I am serving as the International Student. The aim of this subject, which offer views of the evidence and the institutional practices and to help international students improve their academic pursuits and career success organizations.

Some of the potential contribution of the research topics:

• What are the needs, experiences and expectations of international students?
• What are the successful practices, successful programs and approaches to help international students?
• What is the impact of support services for international students is the empirical evidence?

In most countries, international students pay more tuition fees, and less likely to receive services than their domestic counterparts. This "higher education funding" economic model is unbalanced and unfair.

The objectives of student recruitment success metrics instead of only focusing on the inbound, the institutions of the risk of damaging their reputation and competitive positioning. The success of its international students and academic institutions can provide along the route.

High-impact research, such as the above-mentioned segments of the diverse needs of international students as research, focusing on international students is to help you succeed. Future research in this field will understand the needs of international students and help them to be successful in the alumni.

The last thing you want is for any institution-intentioned international students "cash cows" as a treat. Let us work towards investing in the success of research and international students.
