Hong Kong is an open letter to the international student

My name is Chan him M. Cardiff University PhD research in cross-cultural theory I'm doing. I am a citizen of Hong Kong, and 17 learn to live with the tension was rising in Hong Kong since the movement Umbrella UK - occupied Central - and the government, I feel it is time for writing.

Growing up in mainland China, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom have the experience, I have never been fully aware of them.

I am not a Mainlander, as Hong Kong citizenship. I am not a Hong Conger the mainland as well as the experience of growing up, and I have to say that I wanted to be clear about some of the levels. I am not British, but I have lived in this country for nearly 10 years and can speak English fluently.

I basically will always be seen as an outsider, at least, while the long term.

But as an outsider, maybe I can see the big picture in an objective way. I do not '-ism' by head cleared, I do not think there last '-ism' is just right for all of human civilization.

So, who am I representing here? I'm representing myself, in Hong Kong, but the experience of life as a citizen of a hybrid. I'm not choosing any side. What I believe and what I hope is that everyone waits democracy movement. I think that what will 'win' at the end of this battle, but rather, how we can move things forward.

However, if you believe what you believe at this time is the absolute truth and right, then this letter (you may have already done so), you can stop reading. The answer is an absolute act of self-determination for their own account.

Under each of the aspects of the event are some of the suggestions, but foolish.

Although I have not changed my Face book picture of a yellow ribbon or an umbrella, I was looking forward to protest every day, and my heart beats out of my house - to recognize people at home regardless of whether it is beating.

Students

In recent days, according to the majority shouted slogans such as 'democracy', 'the general election,' 'universal standards', 'CY Leung step down', and so on.

Since the government has not responded to any of these slogans, instead of sitting on the street as an expression of the creative, critical and effective way to continue the protest.

I do not mean that you do not want to be creative. The amount of the protest was fascinating and creativities standard is designed poster, drawing comics, video filming, writing banner, gear and much more fashionable and stylish.

These images, all captured in the world, many others around the world affected. Certainly, Hong Congers 'civilized world, the majority of the protesters' deserve a reward.

We have seen a lot of pictures and video, but there is one thing missing from these protesters seems to be writing! Images and videos can capture the world's attention to the time, they come and go in a short period only. However, the wording - theorized your thoughts in a critical way - will last longer, and others to influence philosophically.

Students, why do not you write? All the questions that you have brought up, but they do not want to say something to the whole of humanity, but in Hong Kong.

The boycott to prove your worth, start writing a critical essay to prove your beliefs, your arguments to defend, and show the world how to write thousands of students to real democracy, you can start to discuss the same topic.

What will be the essay topics? You can start your slogans. For example, "What is democracy? ' 'What is the universal standard?' 'What's in a general election?' 'Why should CY Leung step down "

I propose two languages in your essay, written in Chinese and English, and, therefore, your thoughts may be circulating in both general and homes? Words are powerful; do not forget the power of his own. The bridge is to articulate thoughts, and conduct interviews are a civilized tunnel.

What can we do with the attempt? Share images, videos and social networks in the same way hash tags to circulate. Send them in newspapers and magazines; encourage more people to join the discussion. Hong Kong to the international scientific community to inspire and lead a discussion on democracy.

Joshua Wong, I have absolute respect. I was 17 years old, I also like skipping school. Unlike you and your followers, Lane Kuwait Fong, I want to go to the time the majority of live music; other times watched movies and attending musicals. Your enthusiasm to put my teenage hood shame.

I think that the Hong Kong government is stupid enough 'universal standards' and 'actual general election' is to know what that means. For a time, Hong Kong, Hong Kong star of the future, and the proposal is to write a detailed essay demonstrative.

The government does not listen, you have to start another strategy - not screaming, but in writing. How do we take steps to achieve the objectives of the reform is to make any specific proposals? Please show that a 17-year-old could write better than sitting in the government of political reform in the world.

Now a star; I'm sure many of your writings and read your thoughts. I'm excited, and I'm sure the world is too. But I'm not clever enough to give you suggestions, most of the time I learned to teach my students that I like more.

Students writing the student movement and thought-provoking some serious, some of which are still beneficial to us and helps us to think about the world today.

As a student in Hong Kong, do not waste all the passion that you create. Follow the alternative and intellectual way of protest - in both Chinese and English to start turning your slogans into question. Publish articles, let's see the world, and let the world hear.

Universities and schools

If the student boycott of universities and schools, then it might not be this year flexibility than their exams. If students start writing the essay, that is, their desire to learn and think would be the best way to judge.

Essays will not get an answer. It is not the final answer, explains the process of thinking, and the answer is the same one. This is such a good choice and essay exam to be a new kind of question, so why not? Students can be so creative, universities and schools to follow.

Hong Kong universities to promote democratic features, why not gather the institutions and the students' essays are published in the order of filing of this historical moment. This valuable grant will not only benefit the next generation, but the entire world.

Hong Kong police

In 2005, many Koreans and the World Trade Organization, or WTO among the citizens of Thailand, I had a meeting in Hong Kong. As long as you were prepared.

Korean protesters about how they planned to escape from the police, I heard a conversation, and so they did. Hide-and-seek game with temporarily held in Wan Chair. Followed by Koreans and leaders in their plans. I was lost in the middle of Wan Chair; they never told me (outsider), which was the plan. I was sprayed with pepper spray in your famous; It took me a while to clear my eyes.

Police also are human beings, just like us, I understand. They live in fear and anxiety in an unfamiliar situation. A quiet place like Hong Kong, police do not have to face a lot of bad situations as in other parts of the world.

These really angry 'hot pepper and chili' I was then, though, by taking part in the 2005 WTO protests to Hong Kong, I realized that the lack of police experience. Hong Kong share prices are the result of so many years of peace.

At the same time, we have too many students think. Hong Kong students also lack of experience in big events. Do not you proud of your child? Their discipline, manners and civic conscience? Such a massive gathering for peace, we have witnessed in recent days, anywhere in the world, otherwise I doubt we'll see over.

How do we define 'social disorder'? I suppose the definition of different cultures and peoples. Hong Kong and a passionate young people have little carried away sometimes, but most of the times they get to keep quiet. It was not necessary to use teargas, police barrier in front of some students tried to push it.

Police use teargas angry society. Police someone to step down, and requires forgiveness. In my opinion, the situation could have been used differently, now we remember with haunting results.

The Hong Kong Government

Dear government, talking to students why not? Students write an essay begins; you do not have an excuse to avoid a conversation. This is a hint. Take it or leave it.

In fact, the New People's Party, Regina I chair a panel discussion with international live broadcast has already proposed. I said: "The political parties [leader] as well as members of the Exeo, directors, I have more freedom to express their opinions. This is an open discussion of the future I hope that the talks could help to remove the obstacles."

If’s proposal is the most productive and forward-thinking, in spite of the strategies in the last few days, the answer is not a lot of people.

I ask the government, to set up the platform for dialogue. You have to deal with your people's time. Invite governments and activists without any precondition for people to have a peaceful discussion. Open discussion will be broadcast internationally, simultaneous translation. Let the world witnessed the most democratic debate on the floor.

Do not be afraid to talk to your people. Now it is not occupied by the Central, or Scholars hosted a protest, then let all the people who want to speak on stage to join the Hong Kong people. They could be allowed to speak for 15 minutes. If it does not work anymore slogans, logic, analysis, critical thinking, self-reflection, intelligence and wisdom we need to negotiate.

As we all know, 'occupies a central' to what happens every week. Central Hong Kong offers generous throughout the South Asian workers during the weekends. Parts of Central and Wan Chair and the base of his party have become gathering places.

Why not, on September 28, as we mark the day in Central occupied during the day, in order to remember this important movement in the history of Hong Kong? On this day each year, the Hong Kong people welcome Central occupy, peace and love are.

Hong Kong

I remember when I went to high school, there was a popular saying that almost all children and adolescents in Hong Kong knew and still know about it - 'Oh Shay Tzu Lo', which means' it becomes a so word of mouth to become a Can an "O" shape '.

Once, such as listening to argot, a fast that person a 'proper' can be identified as a Hong Conger. I was never really into the slang, but I could feel the pressure. In order to join the majority of my own, I decided to keep the identity of Hong Kong. It was painful. But your identity (Hong Conger or not) is determined not only to you but others around you.

I've seen over the last few days and I am concerned about some sad scenes. There is the risk of appearing. Those who love Hong Kong, and Hong Congers are also those who, perhaps too 'O Shay Tzu' will have to experience the moment.

Are forced to choose a side. If they do not join the movement of Central occupied, others are not recognized by their Hong Kong identity. This is how, in times of adversity; This is how we play by and judgments of others, and identity formation.

My Dear Hong Kong, on the Bravo movement, peace and love that you have been delivered throughout the world. But, please do not let the passion, but a real connection with the people.

I'm looking forward to the live broadcasting of open discussion of political reform in Hong Kong is one of the most important show on, and also to the volume of essays published by the University student thought provoking.

If all of the above would put the actual practice of democracy in Hong Kong will be the leading place!

The Chinese government this is a good opportunity to think about the world, China is no longer what it was to show the world. Wisdom, wisdom!
